NEW: Guidelines for the management of festivities, celebrations and commemorations of minority religious confessions in public space


The document offers public officials, particularly political and technical staff of local Administrations, keys to guide decision-making process and facilitate the celebration of festivities and religious commemorations that have a greater degree of public impact.

During this quarter, we have presented the awards for Best local practices in management of religious diversity 2017 to the Madrid City Council, for the implementation of the Diversity Management Unit within the framework of the Master Plan for the Municipal Police, and to the City Council of Fuenlabrada, for the practice "Table everyone! Halal menu in the canteens of the municipal urban camps of Fuenlabrada".

Likewise, the winner of the second edition of the Pluralism and Conviviality Research Award was presented publicly at the University of Malaga: "Hate crimes: an obstacle to social cohesion and coexistence".

We take this opportunity to remind you that the call for the III Pluralism and Conviviality Research Award is still open. The deadline for submitting proposals ends on September 10, 2018.

Working with City Councils

We emphasize the collaboration with the City Councils of Alcalá de Henares and Torrejón de Ardoz and the initiation of a new municipal study in Collado Villalba.

We have also organized in the headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, under the sponsorship of the Obra Social La Caixa, a Workshop on the Management of Religious Diversity in which various municipalities were able to discuss the current challenges they face in the public management of this matter.

Presentation of regional studies

On May 5th there was a meeting with religious communities of the Balearic region organized in collaboration with the Government of the Balearic Islands, with the participation of Josep Buades SJ, author of Amic(s) y amat(s). Minorías religiosas en las Illes Balears, from the “Pluralismo and Convivencia” Collection.

On May 24th, in collaboration with the Government of the Principality of Asturias, the book Entrelazados. Minorías religiosas en Asturias, Cantabria y La Rioja, twenty-fifth volume of the same collection, in this case directed by Gorka Urrutia Asua, was presented in Oviedo.

The voice of young people

On April 10th we celebrated a Working Session with Associations of Young Muslims of the Valencia Region with the aim of incorporating their needs and proposals to the different lines of work of the Pluralism and Conviviality Foundation.

We spoke with the director of the only Jewish school located in Madrid to learn about the "My Roots" Project, in which the students in the second year of compulsory school rescue the story of a family member from there to understand the History of the Jewish People.

Conference "Public management of religious diversity", organized by the General Subdirectorate of Human Resources of the Ministry of Justice for officials of Justice and Management.

II Edition of the course "Prevention of Islamophobia and Religious Discrimination", organized by the la Merced Migration Foundation in the framework of the Salam Project.

Training action in "Hate Crimes", organized by the Institute of Integral Training in Security and Emergencies of the Directorate General of Security, Civil Protection and Training of the Community of Madrid, addressed to personnel of the Local Police Corps of the Community of Madrid.
